Backstory: a few weeks ago, I accepted an internship with the DC Center for LGBT Resources. My father found out, threatened to kick me out if I did it, and basically raged on and on…

No, you can’t deny women their basic rights and pretend it’s about your ‘religious freedom.’ If you don’t like birth control, don’t use it. Religious freedom doesn’t mean you can force others to live by your own beliefs.

I’ve never understood this mentality. If someone reaches out to you to be educated (not counting the people who are just being asses) why would you totally dismiss them? This is your chance to at least provide a link to information you think is correct and maybe win over allies.

^This. I even understand not having the time or energy to explain right then, but “go look at this link” or “you should ask this person” is a lot better than “FUCK YOU I’M NOT HERE TO EDUCATE YOU GOOGLE IT.”

^THAT. Why don’t people fucking understand that? Or even, “Hey, can you give me a good site or two if you know any so I can educate myself?” and then they yell at you for even asking. I’ve had that happen to me too. Because GOOGLE ISN’T THE MOST RELIABLE THING IN THE WORLD, PEOPLE. If I know somebody has experience I am going to politely ask them for references they trust so that I may further my education, because then I know that they have given me sources they find most reliable. Does that not make more sense?!?

Very true. I have been guilty of this meme many a time, however.
